Travel eSIM

Is my phone eSIM compatible?

Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked before buying a travel plan, with the device list or a quick dial code.

Before buying a travel eSIM, make sure your phone can use one. Two things matter: the phone must support eSIM, and it must not be locked to a single carrier.

Check the device list

Our list of compatible devices covers popular phones and tablets (travel eSIMs do not install on smartwatches). Some models sold in certain countries do not support eSIM even when other versions of the same model do, so check the details for your region.

Look for an EID

An EID is the unique identifier of an eSIM chip. If your phone has one, it supports eSIM.

  • Open the phone app and dial *#06#. If an EID appears among the numbers shown, your phone has an eSIM chip.

  • On iPhone you can also look in Settings › General › About. On Android, try Settings › About phone › Status or SIM status.

Check that your phone is unlocked

A phone bought from a carrier may be locked to that carrier's network and refuse other eSIMs.

  • On iPhone, open Settings › General › About and look for Carrier Lock. No SIM restrictions means the phone is unlocked.

  • On Android, ask your carrier, or test the phone with a SIM card from another carrier.

Still not sure?

Ask the manufacturer or the carrier that sold you the phone. It is much easier to check before your trip than at the airport.
