About Apple verification
Creating an Apple Account — the account formerly called Apple ID, used for the App Store, iCloud and iMessage — includes confirming a phone number with a six-digit code. Apple then treats that number as a trusted phone number for two-factor authentication, which matters a great deal for what you do next.
Because Apple sends sign-in codes to trusted numbers and trusted devices, add a phone number you keep under Sign-In & Security as soon as the account exists, and only then remove the verification number. Otherwise you may be unable to sign in on a new device or recover the account once the activation expires. Use the number immediately after it is issued and follow Apple's terms and conditions.
Apple verification FAQ
Why should I add my own trusted number?
Apple sends two-factor codes to trusted phone numbers. If the only trusted number is a temporary one, you can lose access the next time Apple asks for a code.
Apple says it can't verify the number. What should I do?
Apple sometimes refuses certain numbers or regions. Cancel before any SMS arrives so you aren't charged, then try another country.
Does the number's country set my App Store region?
No. Your App Store country follows your account's country or region setting and payment method, not the verification number.
