About Google verification
Google may ask for a phone number when you create a Google Account, or later when it notices an unusual sign-in, and texts a six-digit code that starts with "G-". One verified account opens Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive and Google Play, so it is worth doing this step carefully: choose a country, wait for the number to appear, then paste it into Google's form straight away.
Google limits how often a number can be used for verification and sometimes declines a number before sending anything. If that happens, cancel before an SMS arrives — the reserved amount goes back to your balance — and try another country. Once you are signed in, add a recovery email and a phone or passkey you keep long-term: a verification number is for one-time use and cannot help you recover the account later. Follow Google's Terms of Service for every account you create.
Google verification FAQ
Why does Google say "This phone number cannot be used for verification"?
Google screens numbers and limits how many accounts one number can verify. Cancel the number before any SMS arrives (you are not charged) and try a different country, or retry later.
What does the Google code look like?
Usually "G-" followed by six digits. Most forms only need the six digits, without the "G-".
Can I keep this number for 2-Step Verification?
No. The number is yours only during the activation window. Set up 2-Step Verification with an authenticator app, a passkey or a phone you own.
How long do I have to use the number?
The countdown on the activation page shows the time left. Ask Google for the code as soon as the number appears so it arrives well within that window.
