About PayPal verification
PayPal asks for a mobile number when you open an account and texts a six-digit code to confirm it. PayPal then uses that number for security codes when you log in from a new device or make sensitive changes.
Because PayPal holds money and payment cards, treat the verification number strictly as a sign-up step: right after confirming, add a phone number you own and move two-step verification to an authenticator app, so you never lose access to your funds. Expect PayPal to run its own identity checks under its User Agreement and local regulations; a phone number does not replace them.
PayPal verification FAQ
Should I keep this number on my PayPal account?
No. Replace it with your own number as soon as you're signed in — losing access to security codes can lock you out of your money.
PayPal asks for identity documents. Can you help?
No. Identity and financial checks are between you and PayPal and must be completed by you.
Which country should I choose?
PayPal accounts are country-specific, so a number from the same country as your account is the most likely to be accepted.
