About Twitch verification
Twitch accounts can be created with an email address or a phone number, and some channels only let accounts with a verified phone chat. Twitch also uses phone numbers for two-factor authentication. When you add a number, Twitch texts a code — enter it as soon as it appears.
Twitch lets a few accounts share a verified phone number, and a channel ban on one of them applies to the others too, so a different number is never a way around moderation. After verifying, set up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app so your account doesn't depend on this number, which expires after the activation window. Follow Twitch's Community Guidelines.
Twitch verification FAQ
Why does a channel require a verified phone to chat?
Streamers can turn on phone-verified chat to reduce spam and harassment from throwaway accounts.
Can I use the number for Twitch 2FA?
Use an authenticator app instead; the number is only for the verification code.
Can I remove the number later?
Yes, in Settings › Security and Privacy, though phone-verified chats may ask you to verify again.
