About Uber verification
Uber requires a mobile number for every rider account and confirms it with a four-digit code sent by SMS. Request the code right after the number appears and enter it in the app before the prompt times out; otherwise Uber may offer to resend the code or call you instead.
During trips, drivers and Uber support contact you through the number on your account, so after verifying, change it to a phone you'll actually carry. A verification number stops receiving messages once the activation ends and is not suitable for trip contact or account recovery. Follow Uber's Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.
Uber verification FAQ
Why does Uber need my phone number?
It identifies your account and lets drivers reach you about pickups. In many cities Uber's in-app calling hides both sides' real numbers.
Does this also cover Uber Eats?
Yes. Uber Eats uses the same Uber account, so one verification covers both apps.
Uber is calling instead of texting. What now?
Numbers here receive SMS only. Choose the text option; if Uber insists on a call, cancel before an SMS arrives and you won't be charged.
