About Viber verification
Viber, the Rakuten-owned messaging and calling app, ties each account to a phone number and activates it with a code sent by SMS or an automatic call. Choose SMS where Viber offers a choice, keep the activation page open and enter the code as soon as it arrives.
Viber identifies you to contacts by your number, so anyone who later holds the number could appear under it in other people's address books. If you plan to keep using Viber, move the account to a number you own with Viber's Change Phone Number feature and back up your chats. Spam and unsolicited bulk messages are against Viber's terms.
Viber verification FAQ
Viber is calling me instead of sending an SMS.
Viber sometimes verifies with a call. Numbers here receive SMS only, so request the SMS option; if it isn't offered, cancel before an SMS arrives and try later.
Can I use Viber on a computer with this number?
Viber for desktop links to an activated Viber app on your phone by scanning a QR code; the SMS step happens on the phone.
What happens to my chats if the number expires?
Chats stay on your device, but reactivating on a new phone needs the number. Back up your chats and switch to your own number with Change Phone Number.
